You will primarily be working as part of a team of technicians based in Ashchurch, Gloucestershire. You will have the opportunity to visit other sites both in the UK and overseas ensuring that all antennas are structurally maintained to a high standard. For this role you will be based in Ashchuch, with access to work flexibly from the two different sites when practical. Normal hours of work are 37 per week, Monday to Friday, with flexible start and finish times to meet the needs of the customer .

This role is within the Marine Sector of Babcock International Group, which delivers a wide array of complex through-life marine engineering services to defence and civil customers across the globe. These range from UK and international naval fleet support, commercial marine, engineering consultancy, weapons handling, equipment support, intelligence, cyber security and training.

Rigger Apprenticeship:

The Rigger Apprenticeship will take four years to complete, based on site whilst undertaking distance learning and on the job training (OJT) using a trade mentor. You will complete training assignments and gather competency information to meet internal and external apprentice assessments.

Typical day-to-day tasks for a Rigging Apprentice will include:
Pressure washing of antenna structures ranging from 1metre to 32metres
Antenna structure pre-paint preparation (needle gun, shot blasting).
Various paint systems application.
Working at height on antenna structures (harnessed climbing)
Repair & replacement of defective components
Installation of complimentary equipment
Machinery operation (MEWPS, pressure washers, compressors)
Customer liaison/reporting/compulsory training
IT/general administration

This programme will offer the opportunity to gain extensive experience within our on-site installation team with opportunities to gain further skills that are usually associated with the equipment.

Qualifications you'll get:

Other training courses will be offered time permitting.

The aim of the apprenticeship scheme is to prepare you for an engineering post within the company with the opportunity to become a fully trained Rigger.

Additionally, the successful candidate must be eligible to gain Developed Vetting Clearance.

Qualifications required:
A minimum of 5 GCSEs, all at grade C/4 or higher (or equivalent) including GCSE English and Maths
