A renowned architectural firm with a strong reputation is looking for an experienced Principal Designer to join their team in Northampton. This exciting role offers the opportunity to lead design projects while embedding health and safety considerations at every stage. The practice boasts a diverse portfolio spanning residential, commercial, and public sector projects and is celebrated for its client-centered approach.

The successful Principal Designer will be responsible for managing the health and safety aspects of design work, ensuring compliance with the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 (CDM 2015). You will play a key role in collaborating with architects, engineers, and external consultants to deliver innovative and practical solutions.

This position offers the chance to influence the design process from inception to completion, making a direct impact on the success of the firm's projects.

Skills, Experience and Responsibilities for the role of Principal Designer:

  • Lead design projects, ensuring CDM 2015 compliance.
  • Collaborate with architects, engineers, and consultants to create innovative, sustainable designs.
  • Advise on health and safety issues throughout project stages.
  • Manage risk assessments and guide teams on safety-focused design.
  • Mentor junior staff and enhance design practices.
  • Architectural background (RIBA, ARB) with extensive experience in a similar role.
  • In-depth knowledge of CDM 2015 regulations.
  • Leadership and communication skills, with experience across various sectors.
  • APS membership and proficiency in design software (AutoCAD, Revit).
  • Experience with sustainable and energy-efficient designs.
