The role

As a Plant Engineer, you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary. This role is core to the management of the submarine docks, nuclear fuel handling and radioactive waste facilities that are being developed to enable both the refit of active submarines and the defuel of the UK's retired submarine fleet. The unique post offers experience into engineering, nuclear safety governance and facility management and great opportunities for career advancement.

Day to day, you'll be key in supporting the nuclear and radiological safety of operations around the facilities and interfaces with the production, design and technical teams to support implementation of engineering, process controls and safety cases.

  • Key in the management of control of work, site operations, plant maintenance and routine facility demands.
  • You will have the opportunity to support projects, designing and installing new engineering and infrastructure, essential in supporting future nuclear facilities capabilities.
  • Interfacing with operational teams and undertake health and safety walk downs, as well as dealing with defects with the facility or supporting equipment.
  • Responsible for implementing the nuclear safety case requirements to operate the nuclear dock and radioactive waste facilities over the next 20 years.
  • Crucial in enabling the successful and safe delivery of work packages on site, ensuring that all necessary controls are in place upon release of nuclear safety significant evolutions, such as docking a submarine.

Essential experience of the Plant Engineer:

  • Experience within a STEM related field

Qualifications for the Plant Engineer:

  • Relevant STEM degree or Equivalent Experience

The successful candidate must be able to achieve SC and NNPPI security clearance for this role.
