The role

As our Head of Radioactive Waste, you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary. You'll be responsible for the safe, effective and efficient control and delivery of Radiological Waste Management Services for the DRDL site and its customers.

Day to day, the Head of Radioactive Waste will provide professional waste management services to the site and its customers to ensure that all radioactive waste is predicted, and that appropriate, timely and achievable plans are made for characterisation and disposal. You'll be the first point of contact and Senior Responsible Officer (SRO) for radioactive waste for Babcock Devonport and be responsible for creating and leading customer interface forums, demonstrating to the customer that radioactive waste is understood and well managed on the Devonport site.

Key Duties of the Head of Radioactive waste include:
Creation of the overall waste management and consignment programme, identifying and co-ordinating appropriate resources to achieve this, including budget forecasting and management aligned to the programme
Lead and co-ordinate interfaces with radioactive waste suppliers for: Analysis and characterisation of radioactive waste, processing radioactive waste and disposal of radioactive waste
Develop processes and procedures related to generation, characterisation, packaging, sentencing and disposal of radioactive waste

Experience of our Head of Radioactive Waste:

This position carries significant radiological safety responsibilities and as such, the incumbent is expected to be able to demonstrate substantial radiological credentials and qualifications plus relevant industry experience in waste management.

This post has a core of 36 working hours a week, is a full time permanent position at the company. The majority of the time you'll be on site with the ability to work off site when appropriate.

The successful candidate must be able to achieve security clearance for this role.
