The role

As a Naval Architecture Engineering Manager you'll have a role that's out of the ordinary. We're recognised across the submarine enterprise as a centre of excellence for submarine naval architecture. You will be accountable for leading the team of highly capable and motivated naval architects, strengthening our position as the UK's leading provider of in-service submarine naval architecture support.

Day to day, you'll provide team management and leadership to enable both the care and growth of your team members, and timely delivery of engineering outputs to ensure the project/programme engineering activities are successfully achieved.

Your key responsibilities will include;

  • Ensuring your team have the means required to achieve their full potential
  • Providing strategic direction for the growth of technical capability and workstreams
  • Ensuring appropriate governance, assurance and management of all technical tasking
  • Reporting technical, resourcing and project information to the Group Manager
  • Collaborating across Babcock's engineering businesses to improve efficiency, and identify and apply industry best practices
  • Engaging with customers, suppliers and stakeholders across the submarine enterprise

Essential experience of the Engineering Manager:

  • Effective leadership, interpersonal and communication skills
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise effectively and deliver in a complex environment
  • An ability to positively influence and work collaboratively with all levels of an organisation
  • Proven entrepreneurial ability to identify and exploit opportunities
  • Proactive approach with a strong capability for problem solving
  • Proven track record of delivery reliability, productivity and quality
  • Competent mentoring of direct reports to improve their leadership skill sets and overall effectiveness, empowering them to take accountability

This is a full-time role offering a hybrid working arrangement. You will be required to work from our office at least 2 days per week, however flexibility will be required for further attendance, dependant on business needs / classification of work.

Qualifications for the Naval Architecture Engineering Manager:

  • Degree qualified in a STEM discipline that includes naval architecture, and be registered as a Chartered Engineer
