Job Description

Summary

As a Biochemical Technician, you will be responsible for safely and efficiently manufacturing products according to Synsus quality standards using process and lab equipment. This position is responsible for manufacturing product by following manufacturing procedures and keeping detailed records of the process and inventory while maintaining a safe work environment. This position will also be involved in laboratory testing of products, pilot scale manufacturing, procedure development, inventory management, and support of process engineer priorities.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Follow and document batches according to the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP), which provides a detailed written method of instructions, and formula for blending specific ingredients in precise amounts for the manufacture of specialty liquid fertilizers or agricultural products.
  • Understand the key process variables which impact product quality, consistency and how to control and troubleshoot them.
  • Prepares and makes ready all materials for manufacturing. Monitors change of temperature, pressure, visual appearance, physical changes, and other significant developments which serve as an indication of process progress.
  • Works with operators, planners, quality department, process engineering, maintenance, shipping / receiving and plant manager as a team to provide excellent service to customers.
  • Complete the job specific SOP with all necessary data including but not limited to target weight and actual weight of each add, time of completion with date, total actual batch weight, and testing results.
  • Able to communicate any change or discrepancy to equipment or batches in a timely manner, clearly and effectively across the team.
  • Maintain clean work areas, clean manufacturing and storage tanks, all lines and other equipment, using water and various cleaning agents as required.
  • Operate pilot scale process and work with process engineer to develop SOPs.
  • Conduct laboratory testing as needed for specific new products.
  • Inspect and operate a powered industrial truck to move/store raw materials.
  • Operate overhead rail mounted cranes.
  • Perform minor maintenance tasks as required to keep processes operating. Prepare equipment for maintenance when needed for safe handover to maintenance staff.
  • Understand and follow Synsus Policies as well as state and federal regulations.


Qualifications

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficiency in math, reading comprehension, and mechanical reasoning with strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Able to become respirator fit tested for safe operations.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment.


Education/Experience

  • 2 or 4 year technical or scientific degree (Chemistry, Biology, Microbiology, etc).
  • Trade School with mechanical or technical background
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
