Babcock as part of the SB Rail Joint Venture have an ongoing contract with Network Rail for the maintenance of Scotland's track and are looking to recruit suitable individuals to be based out of our Rutherglen Workshop as Apprentice On Track Engineering Technicians.
You will gain academic qualifications and professional experience. You will work closely with our experienced workshop and project staff and learn about maintaining our fleet of On Track Machines and delivering successful projects whilst operating to high safety standards.
You will attend training courses and gain competence through a detailed personal development programme which will deliver underpinning knowledge and understanding in the job role to allow you to meet the requirements of the appropriate industry recognised certification schemes.
What you need:
Educated to grade C or above in GCSE/National 5 (or equivalent) in a minimum of 5 subjects which must include Maths, Science and English, you will be enthusiastic, motivated with good communications skills and able demonstrate clear potential to continuously grow and develop your skills and career at Babcock.
You will be required to work as part of a team, working both day and later in your training night shifts, including weekends, indoors and outdoors, at all times and in all weathers.
You will also work on or near railway lines and have the ability to work on your own initiative. Comprehensive on the job training will be given in track safety and the other skills necessary in carrying out this role.
You will be required to pass a medical with our Occupational Health provider, to ensure you meet the standard for working in a safety critical role. During your apprenticeship you will earn a competitive apprentice wage and gain hands-on technical experience in the work place.
